Wisconsin County Considers Charlie Kirk Highway

Washington County in Wisconsin is weighing naming a highway in honor of slain Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

The proposed stretch of highway, proposed as the “Charlie J. Kirk Way,” covers Highway K between County Road R and State Highway 144.

“Even people he disagreed with, engaging in conversation particularly at the end of his life. I think it was so important and so much of what we need,” said Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann, as per TMJ 4.

The cost of the project is an estimated $50,000.

According to the resolution on the matter, the new highway name seeks to “honor the life and work of Charlie Kirk which contributed to a broader national dialogue about the importance of protecting freedom of speech, defending constitutional rights, and preserving the values that have long defined the American experiment.”

The resolution notes that Kirk “demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to the principles of freedom, individual liberty, patriotism and the founding ideals of the United States, exemplifying the virtue of our Republic of a willingness to speak openly and debate ideas.”

Last year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced that the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway was approved. “The road is a section of Wellness Way from US 27 to the Orange County line,” DeSantis said. “Lake County’s dedication of the highway represents the first county to memorialize Kirk in the aftermath of his assassination.” The sign’s installation made Lake County, Florida, the first local government in the nation to officially name a road after the Turning Point USA founder.
