During Tuesday’s broadcast of ABC’s The View, co-host Joy Behar predicted that President Donald Trump’s name would be removed from buildings bearing his brand once he leaves office.
The remarks came during a discussion about Trump’s recent actions and political standing. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg referenced comments suggesting some dissatisfaction within Trump’s political base.
“You know who just said in an interview that MAGA loves what he’s doing, but it sounds like there’s a little bit of discord here. There’s a lot of angry people,” Goldberg said.
Behar responded by questioning the motivations behind Trump’s recent decisions.
“You know, there’s something fishy about why he did it to me,” Behar said. “I mean, I don’t trust him anyway, and they all lie. But why is he really doing this?”
She suggested that economic concerns could be influencing public reaction, pointing to rising prices and market fluctuations.
“First of all, he knows that his administration is in trouble because people want the prices of food to go down,” Behar said. “They want eggs to go down, they want gas to go down, and things are going up.”
She referenced a drop in the Dow and rising oil prices, questioning whether the administration’s actions could serve as a political distraction.
“Possibly it’s a distraction like a wag the dog situation,” she said.
Behar also mentioned a conversation with a friend who speculated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have influenced Trump’s decisions in an effort to shape his legacy.
“What legacy?” Behar said. “The minute he is out, every name is coming off of every building. No one’s going to ever hear from him again.”
Trump’s name is currently attached to numerous properties, including hotels, residential towers, and golf courses bearing the Trump brand. The president has previously emphasized the value of the Trump name as part of his business and political identity.
