Newsom Signs Bill Handing Millions to Planned Parenthood

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill giving millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood. Under Senate Bill 106, “up to $90,000,000 is available for funding grants to family planning providers for the provision of family planning services and family planning-related services.”

“California is taking steps to ensure people don’t lose access to the range of services provided by Planned Parenthood. As the Trump administration’s Big Ugly Bill punishes women and community health providers, California continues to stand in support of women’s access to essential health services and reproductive freedom,” he said, mocking President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

Newsom added, “California values women, their choices, and their fundamental right to health care. While the Trump Administration relentlessly puts women’s health and safety at risk, California’s latest investments support Planned Parenthood and protect access to critical resources for women and families across the state.”

The bill’s funding follows California’s dedication to provide $140 million to Planned Parenthood last fall.

Five Planned Parenthood clinics shut down across California in July following the One Big Beautiful Bill, which prohibits Medicaid funding for health centers that both provide abortions and received more than $800,000 in federal reimbursements the previous year.

Ahead of the bill’s signing, California Family Council (CFC) Vice President Greg Burt said, “When a society rejects God and the inherent value of human life, this is where it leads: calling the destruction of children ‘care’ and calling massive abortion subsidies ‘compassion. These bills reveal just how dark our moral vision becomes when we abandon the truth about human dignity.”
