Border Patrol Commander-at-Large Greg Bovino delivered a fiery press conference this week, calling out Minneapolis officials for failing to tell the full truth about a deadly confrontation between federal agents and a man who was reportedly armed and prepared for a violent standoff.
The press conference aired live on FOX News, where Bovino laid out details surrounding the fatal incident that has reignited tensions in Minneapolis. According to Bovino, the suspect, who was shot by federal officers, had in his possession a 9mm handgun and magazines full of ammunition. Despite this, Bovino said city leaders failed to acknowledge those facts when publicly discussing the situation.
“Mayor Frey and Chief O’Hara, just a few minutes ago, did the opposite of what we need,” Bovino said. “They omitted the fact that the suspect had a gun and magazines full of ammunition. In what looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”
Bovino emphasized that law enforcement is under increasing threat and that political leadership needs to stand with officers, not distort the facts. He warned that withholding key information only emboldens those who seek to harm officers and divide communities.
He called for stronger cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement. “We will not allow violence against our law enforcement officers,” he said firmly. Bovino then reinforced a message shared by himself, President Trump, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem: “If you obstruct a law enforcement officer or assault a law enforcement officer, you are in violation of the law and will be arrested.”
The statement comes amid growing concern over public safety and transparency, especially in cities where clashes between federal agents and local officials have become politically charged.
