President Trump’s Davos address put Western civilization at the center of the global debate, drawing sharp reactions from political leaders and strong praise from Somali-born activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, President Trump warned that Western nations face an existential threat if they fail to defend their cultural foundations.
During his remarks, President Trump told the audience, “The West cannot mass import foreign cultures.” He pointed to Minnesota as an example, saying, “We’re taking people from Somalia, and Somalia is a failed [state].” President Trump argued that Western success stems from culture, not policy alone, stating, “This is the precious inheritance that America and Europe have in common… But we have to keep it strong.”
Hirsi Ali, an author and former Dutch lawmaker, told Fox News Digital that the message was overdue. “Trump is right,” she said. “I think it is the most important thing.” She added that defending Western culture outweighs economic or military concerns, explaining, “More important than all of that is our value system. And it’s our heritage.”
Drawing from her personal history, Hirsi Ali described Somalia’s failures and agreed with President Trump’s assessment. “The president is right when he says Somalia hasn’t even made it into a nation,” she said. She also warned of a broader ideological threat, calling it a “subversive agenda in the United States to transform it and to Islamize it.”
Hirsi Ali described President Trump’s speech as a turning point, calling it a “breakthrough” and saying defending Western civilization must be “priority No. 1.”
