Migrants Exploiting Welfare Barred from Entry

The State Department has paused visa processing for 75 countries in an effort to protect American taxpayers. According to a statement shared on social media, individuals from the 75 countries “take welfare from the American people at unacceptable rates.”

“The freeze will remain active until the U.S. can ensure that new immigrants will not extract wealth from the American people,” the State Department said, noting that migrants from Somalia, Haiti, Iran, and Eritrea, as well as others, “often become public charges on the United States upon arrival.”

“We are working to ensure the generosity of the American people will no longer be abused,” the State Department said. “The Trump Administration will always put America First.”

More than 100,000 visas have been revoked thus far in President Trump’s second term.

Countries affected by the crackdown, which begins January 21, include: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belarus, Belize, Bhutan, Bosnia, Brazil, Burma, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Republic of the Congo, Russia, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

The move comes as President Trump signed a proclamation last month expanding restrictions on who may enter the United States. “I have determined to fully restrict and limit the entry of nationals of 7 additional countries: Burkina Faso, Laos, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Syria,” the proclamation read, adding, “I have also determined to fully restrict and limit the entry of individuals using travel documents issued or endorsed by the Palestinian Authority (PA).”
