Chloe Cole, Transgenderism Was My False Idol

Detransitioner Chloe Cole, now 21, says her journey into transgenderism began with a spiritual void that only God could fill. In a recent interview at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest, Cole opened up about how a lack of faith in her early life led her to embrace gender ideology—a decision she now says was rooted in confusion and a search for meaning.

Raised in a secular home, Cole identified as male at a young age, was placed on puberty blockers at 13, and underwent a double mastectomy at 15. By 16, she realized the so-called “gender-affirming care” she received had caused irreversible harm. Now, she has detransitioned and travels the country as a Christian advocate for children harmed by radical gender ideology.

“It’s the lack of faith that led to that hole in my identity where I felt like I had to seek something more,” Cole said, explaining that without an understanding of her identity as a creation of God, she turned inward to try to redefine herself. “I didn’t know that I was created in God’s image, that I was perfect the way that I was,” she added.

Cole said her upbringing lacked spiritual grounding. Her mother was raised Catholic, and her father Mormon, but neither brought faith into their home. This absence, she believes, made her vulnerable to a worldview that promotes self-deification through bodily manipulation and social validation.

“Transgenderism took that hole,” Cole stated, describing how she became her “own God,” seeking control over how people saw and treated her by altering her body. “But it was a false god,” she said. “It was a false idol that I was chasing.”

After detransitioning, Cole still struggled to find meaning—until she came to faith in Jesus Christ. Surrounded by Christian mentors, she says she discovered healing, purpose, and identity not in gender ideology, but as a “daughter of God.”

“Even when you don’t know what life is going to look like…you just have to trust in God’s plan,” Cole said. “All that matters is that I use my testimony to help other people, to help other children who are confused, to help other families who are lost.”

Now, Cole uses her platform to speak out against the medical exploitation of vulnerable children and to encourage families to return to biblical truth and Christ-centered identity.
