Nate Morris Joins Trump, Filibuster Must Go Before It’s Too Late

Kentucky businessman and Republican Senate candidate Nate Morris is calling on GOP leaders to eliminate the Senate filibuster, warning that Democrats will radically transform the country if they regain power. Speaking on Breitbart News Saturday with host Matthew Boyle, Morris said Republicans must act decisively while they still have political control, supporting President Donald Trump’s call to “nuke” the procedural barrier.

“We have to get rid of the filibuster — we’ve got to get while the getting is good,” Morris said. “We may never have this political opportunity again to codify the things that we need to put into government, to protect the American people, to protect the country.”

Morris, who is running to replace retiring Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), is the only major candidate in the race fully backing President Trump’s plan to eliminate the filibuster. His GOP primary rivals—Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Barr—have declined to take a stance, drawing Morris’s ire. “Weak men,” he called them.

Morris warned of the high stakes if Republicans fail to act. “The moment that Democrats get back into power, they’re going to push for Puerto Rico and D.C. to become a state, they’re going to pack the Supreme Court, they’re going to normalize these illegals to permanently change our country blue,” he said.

Two of Trump’s key Senate allies, Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) and Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), have also voiced support for scrapping the filibuster. Banks emphasized the urgency: “We have a short period… to do the things that we promised our voters.” Moreno added, “Let’s just vote with Republicans. We’ve got 52 Republicans… Let’s open the government.”

Morris echoed the sentiment, stating, “I’m here to stand with America First.” He argued the filibuster is no longer a tool of balance, but a weapon the left will discard the moment it no longer suits them.
