The Trump administration recently declassified documents related to the disappearance of American aviator Amelia Earhart.
“Delivering on President Trump’s promise, the release of the Amelia Earhart files will shine light on the disappearance of a beloved American aviator who has been at the center of public inquisition for decades,” said Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we will continue the work to end the weaponization of intelligence and instead focus the Intelligence Community on finding the truth and telling the truth, and ensuring the safety, security, and freedom of the American people.”
The unsealed records reveal that Earhart’s last communication was on July 2, 1937. It reads, “We are on the line 157 337 wl rept msg we wl rept…” Other unsealed records include maps, reports, messages, and other files pertaining to Earhart’s final flight and the search following her disappearance, such as the U.S. Navy report detailing the investigation into Earhart’s whereabouts.
Ordering the release of the files in September, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I have been asked by many people about the life and times of Amelia Earhart, such an interesting story, and would I consider declassifying and releasing everything about her, in particular, her last, fatal flight!”
Trump called Earhart an “Aviation Pioneer, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and achieved many other Aviation ‘firsts.’ She disappeared in the South Pacific while trying to become the first woman to fly around the World. Amelia made it almost three quarters around the World before she suddenly, and without notice, vanished, never to be seen again.”
“Her disappearance, almost 90 years ago, has captivated millions,” he wrote. “I am ordering my Administration to declassify and release all Government Records related to Amelia Earhart, her final trip, and everything else about her. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
