Doctor’s Crimes Expose After Hidden Camera Discovery Leads to Prison Murder Plot

A shocking case of deception and abuse has emerged from Pennsylvania, where a doctor’s crimes shattered the image of a respected family man and exposed the darkness that can hide behind professional prestige.

Stacey Rutherford believed she had found “a gold mine” when she married local physician Justin Rutherford. But in 2021, her world fell apart after a hidden camera was discovered inside the family bathroom — secretly installed by her husband. Police say the device recorded thousands of intimate images of family members and guests, leading to the exposure of years of sexual abuse.

“Initially, I didn’t think there was any courage there in my speaking out,” said Rutherford’s son, Tyler VanScyoc, who revealed he had been abused since age 11. “I felt like I had to.”

The investigation revealed a sinister double life: Justin fled to Europe, was arrested upon return, and later attempted to orchestrate his stepson’s murder from prison. “I was completely devastated,” Stacey said. “It changed all of our lives. It made me realize just how ugly this world is.”

In 2023, Justin Rutherford was sentenced to up to 70 years in prison, plus additional time for the murder-for-hire scheme. Stacey now urges parents to stay vigilant: “It’s not only creepy weirdos who molest kids. This stuff goes on inside good homes. It can happen anywhere.” The doctor’s double life serves as a chilling reminder that evil often hides in plain sight — and that vigilance remains every parent’s strongest defense.
