The family of 6-year-old Logan Tipton, who was brutally stabbed to death during a 2015 home invasion in Kentucky, says they are “sickened” after learning the man convicted in the attack has been granted an early prison release.
Ronald Exantus, 42, was serving a 20-year sentence for assault in connection to Logan’s killing when he was released last week, according to state records. Despite confessing to the stabbing, Exantus was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity — a verdict that has haunted the Tipton family for nearly a decade.
“Me and my siblings, we are fearful of what’s to come next,” Logan’s sister Koral Tipton told The Will Cain Show. “I saw the man in my room killing my brother. And now he is just free? It doesn’t make sense.”
Logan’s mother, Heather Tipton, said she still feels helpless. “My heart was already broken, but it really broke me when they basically told us nobody killed Logan,” she said.
Kentucky officials said the state’s Mandatory Reentry Supervision law (KRS 439.3406) required Exantus’ release, even though the Kentucky Parole Board unanimously voted for him to remain behind bars.
The ruling has sparked outrage nationwide, prompting a statement from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said the case shows a “failure of justice.”
Heather Tipton says she now wants federal action to prevent similar outcomes. “Something has to be done,” she said. “He should not be free.”
