Illegal immigrants used vehicles to attempt to ram ICE officers in Bensenville, Illinois, and Norridge, Illinois.
The migrants used the vehicles in efforts to “ram and injure officers carrying out their sworn duty to uphold our nation’s immigration laws,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a press release. In one incident, an illegal immigrant hit an ICE vehicle twice. He then jumped a curb and crashed his car into a stop sign. In another incident, an illegal immigrant charged the vehicle into ICE agents.
“Thankfully none of our law enforcement was killed because of these deranged criminals’ attacks on law enforcement. This is exactly what happens when Governor Pritzker, Mayor Johnson, and other sanctuary politicians demonize ICE and encourage illegal aliens to resist law enforcement,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in statement. “Our ICE law enforcement is facing a more than 1000% increase in assaults—including cars—being used as weapons against them. Secretary Noem has been clear: anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The attacks showcase the rise of violence against ICE agents.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi issued a sweeping memorandum to put an end to the attacks. The directive, sent to the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, and the director of the Executive Office of US Attorneys, instructs officers and agents to defend ICE facilities, add local law enforcement to the ICE Protection Task Force, and provide assistance to entities protecting ICE.
Detailing the increase of violent incidents and riots across the country, described as “sophisticated, organized campaigns of targeted intimidation, radicalization, threats, and violence,” Bondi wrote, “Enough is enough. The Department of Justice will stand strong when federal law enforcement officers are attacked or threatened for doing their sworn duty on behalf of the United States government.”
