Florida Installs Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced that the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway has been approved.

“The road is a section of Wellness Way from US 27 to the Orange County line,” DeSantis said. “Lake County’s dedication of the highway represents the first county to memorialize Kirk in the aftermath of his assassination.”

The sign’s installation makes Lake County, Florida, the first local government in the nation to officially name a road after the Turning Point USA founder.

“This is amazing! I love how fast this happened, Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet said of the memorial. Referring to calls for cities and counties across the nation to take similar action, Kolvet said, “I agree, every city and county in America should follow the lead of Lake County, FL and name a road or highway in honor of Charlie Kirk.”

Last week, the county approved the resolution making the memorial highway in a 5-0 vote.

Another Florida effort aims to rename a Miami-Dade road in honor of Charlie Kirk. The bill, filed by Florida House Speaker Juan Carlos Porras (R), would designate a “portion of S.R. 985/S.W. 107th Avenue between S.W. 24th Street and S.R. 90/S.W. 8th Street” near Florida International University in Miami-Dade County to be named “Charlie Kirk Memorial Avenue.” The bill further directs the Florida Department of Transportation to erect “suitable markers” for the memorial avenue.

Porras said he and Kirk “founded the first ⁦[Turning Point USA] chapter in FL back in 2015 where this road is going to be, now it will honor his legacy.”
