Trump Saves TikTok in Deal Protecting U.S. Security

President Donald Trump approved a deal for TikTok that prevents its ban while also protecting American security.

“We have American investors taking it over, running it — highly sophisticated,” Trump said, adding that “Oracle is going to play a very big role.”

“This deal really does mean that Americans can use TikTok, but actually use it with more confidence than they had in the past, because their data is going to be secure and it’s not going to be used as a propaganda weapon against our fellow citizens,” Vice President JD Vance said.

When asked if he is satisfied with the security of the platform, Trump responded, “Yeah, I am, I really am. The biggest reason is it’s owned by Americans, and very sophisticated Americans — and people that love the country, and very smart Americans, too.”

According to a White House fact sheet on the deal, the platform will be “majority-owned by U.S. investors, operated in the U.S. by a board of directors with national security and cybersecurity credentials, and subject to strict rules to protect Americans’ data and our national security.” ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, will hold less than 20% of the stoke, will have only one director of the board, and will not be included in the security committee.

“The divestiture includes intense monitoring of software updates, the algorithm, and data flows, and it requires all recommendation models, including algorithms, that use U.S. user data to be retrained and monitored by America’s trusted security partners. This ensures U.S. content is free from improper manipulation,” the fact sheed explains.

The preservation of TikTok is expected to generate $178 billion in the United States, sustaining thousands of jobs and business across the country.
