Jay Cutler Triggers Activists with Sable Hunt, the Backlash Won’t Stop Him

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler sparked a storm of criticism after posting photos from a South African hunting trip featuring his recent sable antelope kill. “Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty,” Cutler wrote on Instagram. “Sable down.”

The 42-year-old ex-Chicago Bears star, now an avid hunter, shared images from the hunt that enraged animal rights activists and social media users. Critics slammed Cutler, claiming he was “murdering” wildlife and had “nothing to brag about.” One commenter sneered, “Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it’s rarely hunted… Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy.”

Cutler, however, remained unfazed. On Sunday, he posted video clips of more antelope hunts, celebrating with friends. By Monday, he added a new post captioned, “Another great day,” accompanied by more images of animals he had taken down.

Trophy hunting in Africa—especially of species like sable antelope—has long drawn the ire of progressive activists, despite its legal status and role in conservation programs. For many others, however, Cutler’s unapologetic stance is refreshing. He’s not bowing to online mobs or apologizing for lawful behavior that supports wildlife management and local economies.
