Democrats Launch Fierce Campaign Against Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

New Hampshire’s Democrat delegation is rallying its base against President Trump’s $3.4 trillion “Big, Beautiful Bill,” calling it a massive handout to the wealthy at the expense of working families. The legislation, passed along party lines, includes deep cuts to Medicaid and SNAP while expanding tax breaks and border enforcement.

Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan condemned the bill as “immoral” and a “betrayal.” Representative Chris Pappas called it “a disaster for the American people.” They claim the bill will eliminate healthcare for millions and increase the national deficit by nearly $3 trillion. Democrats say their base is frustrated and motivated, promising to make the bill a central issue in the 2026 midterms.

The law extends Trump-era tax cuts, adds $150 billion each to the military and ICE, and imposes Medicaid work requirements. The Congressional Budget Office projects 11 million Americans will lose coverage. Democrat organizers in New Hampshire and beyond are launching grassroots actions, targeting moderate voters with ads and events under slogans like “Families First.”

Despite some Republican concern over long-term costs, the bill passed the House 218–214 and the Senate 51–50. GOP leaders hail it as a cornerstone of Trump’s second-term agenda. Conservatives champion the law for its tax relief and border security, but critics argue its social safety net cuts may cost Republicans support among independents.
