The Department of Justice has released nearly 11 hours of surveillance footage from the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, showing Jeffrey Epstein in full view—and alone—from around 10:40 p.m. on August 9, 2019 until approximately 6:30 a.m. the next morning. Both enhanced and raw versions were made public, with enhanced footage offering improved contrast and clarity to confirm definitively that no one entered his cell tier during that timeframe.
A government memo accompanying the release states that FBI agents combed through over 300 GB of video and evidence. Their analysis found no indication of outside interference, corroborating earlier findings that Epstein’s death was a suicide by hanging. The 2019 NYC medical examiner, the DOJ Inspector General, and the FBI have consistently upheld that conclusion.
Despite lingering conspiracy theories, the footage aims to silence ongoing speculation. Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, among other federal officials, has emphasized that Epstein was the only person on the cell tier and that the agency remains open to credible new information.
