President Donald Trump announced during the evening of July 1 that Israel has agreed to a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas.
“My Representatives had a long and productive meeting with the Israelis today on Gaza. Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalize the 60 Day CEASEFIRE, during which time we will work with all parties to end the War,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring Peace, will deliver this final proposal. I hope, for the good of the Middle East, that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar said earlier this week that Israel is “serious in its will to reach a hostage deal and ceasefire in Gaza.”
“We have opportunities in front of us,” Sa’ar said. “We paid for the new reality in the Middle East with the blood of our soldiers and citizens.” He added, “Israel is interested in expanding the Abraham Accords circle of peace and normalization. We have an interest in adding countries, such as Syria and Lebanon, our neighbors, to the circle of peace and normalization – while safeguarding Israel’s essential and security interests.”
President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, recently told CNBC that the historic Abraham Accords agreement may soon expand.
“One of the President’s key objectives is that the Abraham Accords be expanded, that more countries come into it, and we are working on that, in my team and in coordination with the Secretary of State and the entire State Department,” Witkoff said. “We think we’re going to have some pretty big announcements on countries that are now coming into the Abraham Peace Accords.”
