The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute (SFFMI) canceled the “Her Game. Her Legacy” event just 24 hours before it was set to begin, according to organizers at the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF). The event was intended to celebrate Title IX and promote girls’ sports, but the venue claimed the group misrepresented its purpose and called the event “fundamentally misleading.”
The cancellation came after local media coverage highlighted the event’s alignment with opposition to transgender participation in female sports. SFFMI said it had not been informed of planned security or a press conference and expressed discomfort with the event’s message, despite stating a general commitment to free speech.
IWF said it learned of the cancellation through a Facebook post and was not contacted directly. The group, which advocates for single-sex athletics, confirmed it still plans to hold the event as scheduled and is actively seeking an alternate location in Santa Fe.
The incident reflects broader cultural tensions surrounding transgender inclusion in sports. As public venues weigh political pressures against freedom of expression, organizers committed to protecting women’s sports say they won’t be silenced by last-minute cancellations.
