ICE Unrest surged into downtown Chicago Tuesday night as anti-ICE demonstrators confronted federal immigration raids, national transportation ground to a halt, and a car drove through protesters.
In the wake of widespread ICE operations, ICE Unrest in Chicago drew hundreds to the streets. Protesters marched through the Loop and along DuSable Lake Shore Drive before merging into larger groups. Chaos erupted as footage showed a woman driving through demonstrators at Wabash and Monroe. Though reports did not confirm injuries, bystanders and officers blocked her path in vain.
Chicago Police confirmed they’re assessing whether to charge the driver, and Alderman Raymond Lopez criticized vandalism that targeted police vehicles. “I’m so sick of anarchy apologists and their ‘It’s not violent, just property damage bro’ bull [expletive],” he posted on X.
The incident echoes similar unrest in Los Angeles, where anti-ICE protests have shaken the city. Days of demonstrations in LA included freeway shutdowns, burning vehicles, and clashing with law enforcement, prompting a military response. President Trump responded by deploying 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to LA, and then expanded ICE operations to Chicago and elsewhere.
Protester Benjamin Rose told FOX 32 Chicago, “I just think it’s not right what’s going on right now … people are being snatched off the street, so you just gotta do something about it.” Meanwhile, DHS defended the ICE raids, noting “many with a criminal history and criminal convictions” were taken into custody.
As “ICE Out!” rallies spread from Los Angeles to Asheville and Chicago, tensions remain high
