Conservative Karol Nawrocki, a member of the right-wing populist Law and Justice Party (PiS), has been elected Polish president with 50.89% of the vote.
“THANK YOU for every vote. I fought for us to build a strong, safe, honest, empathetic Poland together. A modern Poland in which everyone will be able to fulfill their goals and aspirations. Thank you to everyone who voted for such a Poland,” liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski wrote on X, conceding his defeat.
“I congratulate Karol Nawrocki on winning the presidential election,” he added. “This victory is binding, especially in such difficult times. Especially with such a close result. Please remember that.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Naworki on social media. “Poland, which preserves the strength of its national spirit and its faith in justice, has been and remains a pillar of regional and European security, and a strong voice defending freedom and dignity for every nation,” he wrote. “By reinforcing one another on our continent, we give greater strength to Europe in global competition and bring the achievement of real and lasting peace closer. I look forward to continued fruitful cooperation with Poland and with President Nawrocki personally.”
Nawrocki has received the support of the Trump administration.
During the Conservative Political Action Conference in Warsaw, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem urged, as per The Hill, “We need you to elect the right leader. You will be the leaders that will turn Europe back to conservative values.”
“If you [elect] a leader that will work with President Donald J. Trump, the Polish people will have an ally strong that will ensure that you will be able to fight off enemies that do not share your values,” she said, adding, “You will have strong borders and protect your communities and keep them safe, and ensure that your citizens are respected every single day. You will continue to have a U.S. presence here, a military presence. And you will have equipment that is American-made, that is high-quality.”
