Trump Targets Harvard’s $3B Grants for Trade School Funding

President Donald Trump announced on May 26, 2025, his consideration of reallocating $3 billion in federal grants from Harvard University to trade schools across the United States. This proposal aligns with the administration’s broader efforts to reform higher education funding and address concerns over campus ideologies.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated, “I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land. What a great investment that would be for the USA, and so badly needed!!!”

The administration has previously frozen approximately $3 billion in federal grants to Harvard, citing the university’s alleged failure to address antisemitism and its resistance to providing information on international students. Harvard has responded by filing lawsuits, claiming that the funding cuts infringe upon its constitutional rights.

This move is part of a larger initiative by the Trump administration to scrutinize elite academic institutions and promote vocational education. The Department of Homeland Security recently attempted to block Harvard from enrolling international students, a decision that was temporarily halted by a federal judge.

Legal experts suggest that redirecting congressionally appropriated funds may face challenges, as such reallocations typically require legislative approval. Nevertheless, the administration’s stance reflects a commitment to reshaping the educational landscape by emphasizing practical skills and workforce readiness.
