Charles Barkley Blasts Stephen A. Smith’s Presidential Ambitions: “Hard No” on 2028 Run

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has publicly dismissed the idea of ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith running for president in 2028. In a recent interview, Barkley stated, “Stephen A. is one of my friends… but come on, man, stop it. It started as a joke, and he took it seriously. Come on, man. All I’m saying is, knock it off.”

Barkley emphasized his disapproval by declaring he would not vote for Smith, adding, “Hard no.” He expressed concerns about Smith’s extensive media presence, cautioning that overexposure could lead to diminished public credibility. “You’re starting to be too much right now,” Barkley remarked, referencing Smith’s appearances across various television platforms.

While Barkley criticized Smith’s potential candidacy, he endorsed other political figures, stating that if the Democratic Party does not nominate Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro or Maryland Governor Wes Moore, they risk losing his support as an Independent voter.

Despite Barkley’s opposition, former President Donald Trump has expressed support for Smith’s potential run, praising his communication skills and public appeal. Trump commented, “Stephen A., he’s a good guy. He’s a smart guy. I love watching him. He’s got great entertainment skills, which is very important.”
