A Texas state representative has filed a bill to rename a portion of Interstate 35 to President Donald J. Trump Highway.
The interstate’s segment, in Travis County, is designed to honor President Trump for his “big, beautiful” impact on the state of Texas, a press release for the bill says.
The bill’s author, State Representative Joanne Shofner, said in a statement, “I want to congratulate President Donald J. Trump on his return to the White House. Under his leadership, America [will] once again be respected, and the prosperity that Texas has long enjoyed will be reflected across the nation. It is fitting that this designation is located in our state’s capital, recognizing a president whose impact on Texas and the country is profound and enduring.”
According to the release, Trump and Governor Greg Abbott (R) have “protected Texas’ southern border by finishing the wall, halting the invasion of illegal immigrants, and stopping human and drug trafficking, including deadly fentanyl.”
Should the bill pass, it would take effect on September 1, 2025.
A similar measure to rename a portion of Southern Boulevard in Florida after President Trump was filed in February.
“That portion of Southern Boulevard between Kirk Road 19 and S. Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach County is designated as 20 “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard,” the bill says.
Florida’s Miami-Dade County Commission also approved the City of Hialeah’s request to name a street after President Trump in December. “This board would also like to recognize President Trump and his accomplishments in office by approving the City of Hialeah’s co-designation of Palm Avenue as ‘President Donald J. Trump Avenue,’” the resolution read. “The United States thrived under President Trump’s leadership.”
