California Sheriff’s Deputy Killed in Pursuit Crash

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy was killed Monday morning during a pursuit turned into a crash in the Inland Empire, officials confirmed.

A statement from Gloria Orejel, Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, confirmed the crash. “There was a traffic collision involving a sheriff’s patrol car at the intersection of El Evado and Seneca. There are injuries, however, we are not able to confirm the extent due to live wires down in the area. Edison is enroute. We will send out an update as soon as possible.”

The fatal crash occurred just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of El Evado and Seneca streets in Victorville. Deputies were chasing a stolen vehicle when one of them was involved in a collision. The deputy was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Traffic collision at Seneca and Elevado in Victorville. Expect heavy police presence and delays. Please use alternate routes,” the department initially tweeted.

A woman in another vehicle was also involved in the crash and was transported to the hospital in unknown condition. Authorities have not yet released details on what caused the collision.

Following the tragedy, a procession was held in honor of the fallen deputy.

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of a San Bernardino County deputy. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, and the entire agency during this difficult time. They made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community, and their bravery will never be forgotten,” the San Bernardino Police Officers Association said on social media.
