Over the past several days, a brutal massacre has unfolded in Syria, yet the mainstream media has largely ignored it. More than 1,000 people—including hundreds of Christians—have been slaughtered by Islamic jihadists who now control the Syrian government.
These terrorists, an offshoot of Al Qaeda, have seized power and are systematically targeting religious minorities, including Syria’s ancient Christian communities. Entire families in northwestern Syria have been rounded up and executed in a campaign of terror that can only be described as genocide.
The radical regime took control in December after overthrowing Bashar al-Assad, with their leader, Mohammad al-Julani, rebranding himself as “Ahmed al-Sharaa” in a deceptive attempt to appear moderate. Western governments, particularly in Europe, have naively played along with this charade, but now al-Julani’s forces have revealed their true intentions—engaging in mass murder and religious persecution.
Once again, Christians in the Middle East are facing violent persecution and widespread massacre, and the world seems all too willing to look the other way. It is critical that we pray for these innocent victims and demand real consequences for the terrorists committing these atrocities.
Meanwhile, Israel should be receiving gratitude, not condemnation, for its actions in dismantling Assad’s military arsenal. Had Israel not taken proactive measures, these jihadists would have gained access to advanced weaponry, making the current bloodshed even worse. The world must recognize the true threats in the region and act accordingly.
These are perilous times, both abroad and at home. The stakes have never been higher, and it is up to those who cherish freedom and faith to stand firm against evil.
