Florida Racing Community Mourns Loss of 7-Year-Old Junior Drag Racer

A Florida racing family is grieving after a heartbreaking accident at the Orlando Speed World Dragway claimed the life of 7-year-old junior drag racer Elienisse Diaz Rodriguez.

The young racer was critically injured during a race on Sunday and tragically passed away on Tuesday night. Elienisse came from a well-known racing family in Florida, and her loss has deeply shaken the community.

Her heartbroken mother shared an emotional message on social media, writing, “My sweet angel! Mommy will always love you forever!”

The accident occurred during a junior dragster race held as part of the track’s “Funday Sunday” event, which was sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Elienisse lost control of her dragster, struck a track worker, and then collided with a concrete wall. Thankfully, the worker was not seriously injured.

Track officials released a statement, saying:
“We are deeply heartbroken by the tragic incident that took place Sunday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Elienisse’s family. Motorsports is built on passion, but moments like these remind us of the risks that come with what we love.”

Elienisse was a first-grade student at Eastland Christian School in Orlando. In the wake of her passing, the school has provided counseling to students and staff struggling with the loss.

Her death serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers inherent in motorsports, even at the junior level. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

“Our hearts go out to her family during this incredibly difficult time, and we ask that you join us in lifting them up in prayer and support,” the school said.
