Utah Man Facing Charges After Making Alleged Terror Threats

A Utah man is facing multiple charges after allegedly making terror threats towards a bank and later robbing another. Robert Buckley Hardy, 47, has been charged with robbery and making terroristic threats.

According to court records obtained by FOX 13 News, detectives responded to a reported robbery at the Chase Bank located at 2855 East 3300 South. Witnesses stated that a man entered the bank and demanded exactly $2,001.

Bank employees complied, handing over the cash before the suspect fled the scene. Before leaving, he left behind three manila envelopes labeled for the news media, the FBI, and the Unified Police Department.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had previously entered another bank earlier this year but had not committed a robbery at that time. Surveillance footage from January 30 showed the same individual entering a Chase Bank and leaving behind a manila envelope.

Inside that envelope, authorities found a manifesto in which the suspect allegedly wrote, “So assume this is an active bomb threat on both the executive management of this bank and the president of the United States. I’ve had three years to prepare it.”

Law enforcement officers identified the suspect as Robert Hardy and located him at his home in Brighton. According to court documents, Hardy admitted to placing the packets at the banks and claimed that the amount of money he stole was a reference to the September 11th attacks.

On Friday, a judge ordered that Hardy be held without bail for the terror threats. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
