Dozens of Dogs Rescued from California Wildfires Arrive in Phoenix

In a heartwarming effort to support fire-stricken California communities, over 50 dogs have been flown to Arizona after being rescued from shelters overwhelmed by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

The non-profit organization Wings of Rescue landed at Phoenix’s Deer Valley Airport this afternoon, delivering 21 kennels of dogs to the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), with the remaining animals heading to Tucson.

California’s wildfires have displaced countless families and animals, leaving shelters at maximum capacity and struggling to provide space for additional rescues. These efforts not only help save lives but also open space for Los Angeles shelters to assist more animals affected by the fires.

Kelsey Dickerson of AHS shared the challenges facing shelters in California:
“It’s a heartbreaking situation. These shelters are overrun, and they need the space so they can continue to save even more lives in LA.”

Dickerson also emphasized that the dogs brought to Arizona were already living in California shelters before the fires, ensuring no pets separated from their families were transported out of state.

“We wanted to make sure we weren’t taking any pets that could potentially be reunited with their owners in California. This effort is about providing critical, life-saving space for more animals over there.”

The rescued dogs will soon be available for adoption through the Arizona Humane Society’s website, where they will be marked with a blue logo indicating their journey from California.

Los Angeles shelters and communities remain in dire need as families and animals alike face the devastating aftermath of the wildfires. Efforts like this highlight the importance of cooperation and compassion in times of crisis.

For those interested in helping, the Arizona Humane Society encourages donations and adoptions to assist in creating more room for rescued animals.
