NYC Mayor Eric Adams Claims Indictment is Retaliation for Criticizing Biden’s Immigration Policies

New York City Mayor Eric Adams suggested his indictment by a federal grand jury may be politically motivated due to his criticism of the Biden administration’s immigration policies. Adams, indicted in September on five charges including bribery, wire fraud, and conspiracy, has pleaded not guilty and insists he did nothing wrong.

“I did not break the law. I did nothing wrong — that is how I live my life,” Adams told Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum during an exclusive interview on “The Story.” He called the timing of the indictment “clearly suspect” and vowed to continue advocating for his beliefs.

Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, accused Adams of abusing his position as NYC’s highest elected official and as former Brooklyn Borough President. According to Williams, Adams allegedly took bribes from foreign nationals, including allowing a Manhattan skyscraper to open without a fire inspection.

When questioned about the recent resignation of his chief adviser amid reports she will face criminal charges, Adams dismissed concerns. “No,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to following the law. “I didn’t spend 22 years as a police officer enforcing the law to break the law.”

The investigation has already led to the October indictment of a former Adams aide for witness tampering and evidence destruction. The aide allegedly deleted the encrypted messaging app Signal, which was reportedly used to communicate with Adams.

President-elect Donald Trump, during a Mar-a-Lago press conference, indicated he would consider pardoning Adams. “Yeah, I think that he was treated pretty unfairly,” Trump said, while noting he was unaware of the full details of the case.

Adams clarified he had not requested a pardon from Trump, stating their discussions have focused on their mutual love for New York City and potential collaboration. “I’m working with the president and his administration, not warring with him,” Adams maintained.

Calling the indictment a “personal tragedy,” Adams asserted, “No American should go through what I’m going through right now. This country believes in fairness, and what I’m experiencing is not fair.” He expressed confidence in his legal team and pledged to pursue justice.
