16-Year-Old Tennessee Student Charged After Bringing Rifle-Style Pellet Gun to School

A 16-year-old student at McGavock High School in Tennessee has been charged after bringing a rifle-style pellet gun onto campus. A staff member spotted the student holding the pellet gun in the school parking lot, prompting authorities to intervene.

Police confiscated the pellet gun and searched the student’s car, where they discovered a machete and a hunting knife.

The student, a junior, told authorities he had recently been on a hunting trip and was moving the pellet gun from the backseat to the trunk.

He has been charged with carrying a weapon onto school property. No additional details have been released.

Earlier this week, at least four people were killed and five others were wounded in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin.

According to the New York Post, the shooting occurred just before 11 a.m. on Monday. The gunman is believed to be a juvenile who attended the school. The individual was found dead at the scene.

NBC reported that Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told reporters, “So close to Christmas. Every child, every person in that building is a victim and will be a victim forever. These types of trauma don’t just go away. … My heart is heavy for my community. My heart is heavy for Madison.”

Barnes said the injuries from the shooting range from “minor to life-threatening.”

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) said in a statement, “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
