A San Francisco woman who has long championed the “defund the police” movement is now facing the consequences of the policies she supported—and finding little sympathy from the public.
Darcie Bell, an outspoken anti-police activist, revealed on Saturday that a U-Haul truck containing all her belongings had been stolen in San Francisco. Instead of turning to law enforcement, she took to social media, asking for help and blaming U-Haul for not equipping their trucks with GPS.
U-Haul responded professionally, suggesting Bell file a police report and provide the details afterward.
“If you haven’t already, please be sure to contact the local authorities to report this matter. Please be sure to contact us back to provide the police report to the Equipment Recovery department,” U-Haul stated.
The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on users of X (formerly Twitter), who quickly pointed out the disconnect between Bell’s activism and her current predicament. Even X owner Elon Musk joined in on the commentary.
In a subsequent interview with the New York Post, Bell lashed out, launching a profanity-laced tirade against both the police and U-Haul, accusing them of failing to recover her stolen belongings. She also expressed frustration over having to file a police report—a basic step in any theft investigation.
“I haven’t found my [expletive]! The cops didn’t do [expletive]! U-Haul made me file a [expletive] police report!” she said. “There’s cameras all over this city. They haven’t done [expletive]! I just want my stuff back!”
Bell’s situation highlights the unintended consequences of policies that undermine law enforcement and the public’s growing skepticism of anti-police rhetoric.
