The United States is sending $725 million in military assistance to Ukraine. The millions of dollars include counter-drone systems and munitions, the Associated Press reported.
Two U.S. officials familiar with the development did not confirm if the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems in the package are of the Army Tactical Missile System class.
Ukraine will also be receiving more anti-personnel land mines, the report said.
Last month, the Biden administration approved the use of landmines in Ukraine.
According to a November fact sheet from the Department of State, the U.S. has “provided approximately $64.1 billion in military assistance since Russia launched its premeditated, unprovoked, and brutal full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and approximately $66.9 billion in military assistance since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014.”
The Presidential Drawdown Authority has also been utilized on 55 occasions since August 2021 to “provide Ukraine military assistance totaling approximately $31.733 billion from DoD stockpiles.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently signaled that he is willing to cede territory to Russia in exchange for protection from NATO.
“If we want to stop the hot stage of the war, we should take under [the] NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control,” Zelensky said through a translator in an interview with Sky News. “That’s what we need to do fast, and then Ukraine can get back the other part of its territory diplomatically.”
“This proposal has never been considered by Ukraine because no one has ever offered that to us officially,” he said.
