Daughters of Malcolm X File Lawsuit Against Government Agencies Over Father’s Assassination

The three daughters of Malcolm X have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the CIA, FBI, and the New York Police Department, accusing the agencies of involvement in their father’s assassination and negligence in preventing his death.

The suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, seeks accountability for the February 21, 1965 killing of the civil rights leader in Manhattan, where he was shot while delivering a speech.

Attorney Ben Crump, representing Malcolm X’s daughters, stated in a press conference that the lawsuit aims to uncover government misconduct and rectify historical injustices.

Crump emphasized the importance of accountability, saying, “We want federal and city officials to confront the truth about their predecessors’ actions and take steps to right these wrongs.”

While three men were initially convicted in connection with Malcolm X’s assassination, two were exonerated in 2021 after new evidence emerged.

The lawsuit adds to ongoing calls for greater transparency surrounding government actions during the civil rights era.
