Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested on Friday that he may sue CBS News over what he described as deceptive editing to improve Democrat nominee Kamala Harris’ performance in her controversial “60 Minutes” interview.
In a conversation with conservative podcaster Dan Bongino, Trump expressed frustration with CBS, claiming the network edited out a particularly confusing response from Harris about Israel.
Trump referred to Harris’ original response as an “epic word salad,” as described by his campaign. Before the interview aired, “60 Minutes” teased a segment with Harris discussing the U.S.’s influence over Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Harris initially responded with a muddled answer, but when the interview aired on October 7, her remarks had been edited to sound more coherent. CBS also released the transcript, omitting the original, unedited version of her response.
Trump criticized the network, suggesting that CBS should be held accountable. “It’s a very embarrassing moment for them, but the media is not pressing it,” he told Bongino, calling for the release of what he called “fraudulent tapes” and reiterating that “60 Minutes” should face consequences for the editing.
This is the latest in Trump’s long-standing feud with mainstream media outlets, particularly over issues of bias and selective reporting.
