Former President Donald Trump announced on Friday that if he wins the November 5 U.S. presidential election, he will propose making the cost of home generators tax-deductible for those living in states affected by natural disasters between September 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025.
This policy aims to provide financial relief for homeowners in disaster-prone areas by offsetting the cost of critical backup power solutions.
“We are going to allow you, retroactive to September 1st, 2024, to purchase a Generator for your Home, which will, in so doing, entitle you to fully deduct the TOTAL cost of said Generator for Income Tax Purposes,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
The pledge comes after two major hurricanes ripped through a number of states in the past few weeks, causing millions of Americans to lose power.
Trump opened one of his resorts to linemen working to restore electricity in Florida.
Eric Trump wrote on X, “Honored to have 275 incredible linemen from FPL at @TrumpDoral as they get ready to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane #Milton! You are amazing and the Trump Family, and entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms – they are the best in Florida! Be safe!”
The linemen staying at Trump’s report will join tens of thousands of others who are assisting in recovery efforts.
According to FOX 13, more than 50,000 linemen from around the United States are responding to the power outages.
