Convicted sex offenders in Florida are not allowed to use public hurricane shelters.
“The Sheriff’s Office will ensure that there is a safe environment for anyone that comes there, anyone that comes in will be checked to make sure that they are not a fugitive and not wanted, not a sex offender,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you are a prediator, you are not allowed at the rim fire shelter.”
If an individual is designated under Florida law as a sex predator and needs shelter, they may go to a specific hall in the county jail.
The announcement quickly went viral on social media.
Conservative personality Rogan O’Handley wrote on X, in part, “Welcome to Florida.”
“I LOVE Florida,” another social media user said.
