Former President Donald Trump is returning to the venue in Butler, Pennsylvania where he survived an attempted assassination.
“I said that day when I was shot, I said, ‘We’re coming back. We’re going to come back.’ And I’m fulfilling a promise,” Trump said in an interview with NewsNation this week. “I’m fulfilling, really, an obligation.”
Secret Service will reportedly be stationed both inside and outside of the perimeter.
“Since the attempted assassination of former President Trump on July 13, the U.S. Secret Service has made comprehensive changes and enhancements to our communications capabilities, resourcing, and protective operations,” U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.
“Today, the former President is receiving heightened protection and we take the responsibility to ensure his safety and security very seriously.”
Billionaire Elon Musk said he will “be there to support” Trump during the rally, in addition to a number of famous attendees.
Last week in North Carolina, Trump said that he wanted to return to the venue in Butler to “finish our speech.”
“As you know, there have been two assassination attempts on my life that we know of… and the first case in Butler, Pennsylvania, great place, and we’re going back to Butler,” he said. “We’re going to go back and finish our speech.”
