Michigan Bureau of Elections Opens Probe into Sheriff’s Office After Holding Trump Campaign Event

The Michigan Bureau of Investigations has initiated an inquiry into the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office following allegations that it hosted a Trump event earlier this week, potentially violating the law.

Complaints were lodged against the Sheriff’s office, accusing it of holding a ‘campaign event’ for former President Donald Trump.

The event in question took place at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Howell, Michigan, where Trump delivered remarks.

During the event, Trump, flanked by Sheriff’s deputies, spoke at a press conference focused on law enforcement and public safety.

Sheriff Michael Murphy emphasized that the gathering was not a political rally, stating, “Let me make a couple of things clear: One, this is not a political event. This is a press conference.”

Despite Sheriff Murphy’s clarification, the complaint alleges that the Sheriff’s office violated the law by displaying Trump campaign banners, specifically those with the slogan “Make America Safe Again.”

The investigation will determine whether hosting the event in this manner breached any legal guidelines regarding the use of public resources for political purposes.
