Earlier this week, the FBI raided the Virginia home of Dimitri Simes, a Russian-born policy analyst who advised Donald Trump in 2016.
Simes, who has been living in Russia since 2022, claims the raid was an attempt to intimidate him for his criticisms of the Biden administration’s Ukraine policy and his opposition to what he describes as the “Deep State.”
The raid “clearly is an attempt to intimidate, not only somebody from Russia, but just anyone who goes against official policies and particularly against the deep state,” Simes said.
Simes suspects the real goal is to prevent him from returning to the U.S.
“My suspicion is that instead of trying to get me to come to the United States and to interrogate me — or even to arrest me — their real purpose is to make sure that I would not come back,” he continued.
