Disney Executive Reportedly Harris Mega Donor

Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment, the parent company of ABC News, is reportedly a longtime personal friend and campaign donor to Vice President Harris.

The relationship has raised concerns among some about the potential for bias in the debate, which will be hosted by ABC News on September 10.

Walden’s ties to Harris date back to 1994, a relationship that extends to their husbands, Matt Walden and Doug Emhoff, who have known each other since the 1980s.

Former President Trump, the Republican nominee, has already taken legal action against ABC News, suing the network for defamation. This legal battle further complicates the dynamics of the upcoming debate.

Despite this, ABC News has been quick to defend its reputation, asserting that Harris will not be given any undue advantage.

In a statement, the network emphasized its commitment to journalistic integrity, stating that “ABC News has built its longstanding reputation on journalistic integrity” and that “all editorial decisions are in the hands of ABC News management and the seasoned journalists and producers of ABC, who hold themselves to the highest journalistic standards.”

The debate will be moderated by ABC News anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis, both experienced journalists.

While Disney has stated that Walden’s role is limited to corporate matters and that she has no influence over editorial decisions, the fact remains that the news division is currently without a president. The previous president, Kim Godwin, resigned under pressure in May, leaving a gap in leadership that some might view as a potential vulnerability in ensuring impartiality.

Public filings reveal that in 2023, Walden donated $20,000 to support President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

Vice President Harris has openly acknowledged the close relationship with the Waldens, describing them as “extraordinary friends” and crediting them with playing a significant role in her marriage.

Walden’s position as Disney’s highest-ranking TV executive, overseeing not only ABC but also a range of other media properties, adds another layer of complexity.
