Two children were killed and many others injured after a knife attack occurred at a Taylor Swift themed event in the northwest region of England.
Six of those injured are said to be in critical condition.
A witness told the Associated Press that children were running from a community center where a dance party and yoga event were taking place.
“They had been stabbed here, here, here, everywhere,” the witness said. “They were all aged about 10. One of them was really seriously injured.”
Police later reported that a 17-year-old male suspect had been detained.
“We can confirm that a 17-year-old male from Banks, who was arrested in connection to the stabbing in Southport this morning, Monday 29 July, remains in police custody and will be questioned about the incident,” Merseyside Police said.
“At this early stage, inquiries are ongoing to establish the motive for this tragic incident and we would urge people not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.”
