Jim Inhofe, a former US senator, passed away on Tuesday am. Inhofe, who was 89 years old, had a lengthy career in politics. Prior to joining the U.S. Senate, he held positions in the state House, Senate, and Mayor of Tulsa. He also spent almost three decades in the House of Representatives. In 1967, he started working in public service.
In state history, he was the U.S. representative with the longest tenure. Inhofe was described as a “iconic Oklahoman” by Governor Kevin Stitt on Tuesday during a bill signing ceremony at the Capitol.
“He was in the U.S. Senate for almost 30 years and was a really great representation of Oklahoma values, Oklahoma common sense… so when you think about a U.S. Senator representing your state, you can think about Jim Inhofe,” Stitt stated. “We truly lost a great Oklahoman and a great American.”
Inhofe was an enthusiastic pilot who served in the US Army. He was well-known for emphasizing infrastructure and the military.
Inhofe served the United States in a number of capacities and had a “long lasting impact” on Oklahoma, according to a statement made by state house Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, a Democrat from Oklahoma City.
“My condolences go out to the family and friends of Senator Jim Inhofe,” Munson stated. “He was a tenacious leader, state representative, and United States Senator who stood firm in his convictions.”
Inhofe declared he would retire on January 3, 2023, despite being re-elected to the U.S. Senate with a landslide in 2020. He departs from Kay Inhofe, his spouse, and their four kids.
