President Joe Biden has clarified that he will not be stepping down from his presidential campaign. During a call today with the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Biden stated, “Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can, as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running . . . no one’s pushing me out. I’m not leaving. I’m in this race to the end, and we’re going to win.”
Biden’s remarks come as some Democrats have voiced concerns about his age and electability. However, the President brushed off these concerns, focusing instead on the stakes of the upcoming election.
Representative Lloyd Doggett (D., Texas) has been the only elected Democrat to officially call for Biden’s resignation from the 2024 presidential race, although there have been rumblings from other party members who share Doggett’s sentiment. Amongst those doubting the current president is Nancy Pelosi, who said Biden’s debate performance raised a “legitimate question” about his abilities to continue as Commander in Chief.
The President emphasized his determination to continue his bid for re-election, citing his achievements and the ongoing work of his administration despite continuing to fall behind Trump in the polls following the first presidential debate.
Despite continuing to lose ground in major swing states, President Biden is determined to finish his 2024 presidential campaign.
Donald Trump continues to emerge as the favored candidate amongst voters and elected officials, leaving President Biden pressured to improve his presentation at the coming Democratic National Convention and future debates.
