Elon Musk fact-checked Vice President Kamala Harris after she claimed that former President Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide. VP Harris sought to misrepresent the statements made by Trump during the first Presidential debate by taking to Twitter to share her thoughts.
The tweet in question read: “Donald Trump would ban abortion nationwide. President Joe Biden and I will do everything in our power to stop in and restore women’s reproductive freedom.”
Musk simply challenged the tweet with the reply, “He clearly said he would not do so in the debate.”
While the debate over abortion access is at large, Musk has made an effort to put the spotlight on another issue entirely: The ability for politicians to use their platforms to spread disinformation.
Trump’s commentary on the abortion debate was clear: “I put three great Supreme Court justices on the court and they happened to vote in favor of killing Roe v. Wade and moving it back to the states. This is something that everybody wanted. Now the states are working it out…the Supreme Court just approved the abortion pill and I agree with their decision to have done that, and I will not block it.”
The attempt by VP Harris to smear Trump’s words reflects yet another attempt to misrepresent the messaging of his campaign.
Musk called out Harris and Democrats alike in a tweet saying, “When will politicians, or at least the intern who runs their account, learn that lying on this platform doesn’t work anymore?”
Musk’s advocacy for free speech on X has been long overdue, and in this instance, timely, as the Left is scrambling to smear the Trump campaign in the height of an election year.
