Massachusetts Governor, Maura Healey, recently made an unexpected plea to illegal immigrants, advising them not to come to Massachusetts despite the state being classified as a “sanctuary state” in 2017 by the state’s Supreme Judicial Court.
While Governor Healey has been a bold prononet for open border policies, she has been forced to rescind her statements due to the overbearing burden state facilities are facing amidst the growing border crisis.
Massachusetts is not alone in battling the influx of illegal immigrants. Chicago and New York City have also been forced to shut doors to migrants due to state shelters hitting their max capacity.
To curb migrants from showing up at the state’s doorstep, Gov. Healey intends to send five state officials to various Texas communities to share that the MA state emergency system is overwhelmed and can no longer accommodate migrant families.
Rather than attempting to secure the southern border, Democrat-leaning states are encouraging migrant families to find another sanctuary state where they might find residence.
Governor Healey hopes that the state officials’ trip to Texas will allow migrant families “plan accordingly” to ensure “they have a safe place to go.”
The Biden Administrations inability to secure the southern border is placing strain on border and sanctuary states alike. Governor Healey’s recent statement reflects the burden such policies are creating, resulting in an overburdened and maxed-out system.
