WEF Calls for Removal of ‘AI Disinformation’

The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling for “AI disinformation” and other forms of “disinformation” to be removed.

The article, titled “Stopping AI disinformation: Protecting truth in the digital world,” urges governments to censor “AI-generated harmful content” that may perpetuate “stereotypes and misogyny, further marginalizing vulnerable groups.”

According to the WEF, “gendered disinformation” is an example of “AI-generated harmful content.”

These campaigns lead to “widespread societal harm and deepening existing social divides,” the article claims.

The U.S. Department of State created a page describing “gendered disinformation” in 2023, defining it as a “subset of misogynistic abuse and violence against women that uses false or misleading gender and sex-based narratives, often with some degree of coordination, to deter women from participating in the public sphere.”

According to the State Department, the goal of gendered disinformation is to “undermine democracy.”

In January, the WEF declared that so-called “misinformation” is a leading global threat. “Misinformation and disinformation are biggest short-term risks, while extreme weather and critical change to Earth systems are greatest long-term concern,” the organization wrote in a press release.

“Emerging as the most severe global risk anticipated over the next two years, foreign and domestic actors alike will leverage misinformation and disinformation to further widen societal and political divides,” the group added.
