Russian Prosecutors Seek 4.5-Year Prison Sentence for U.S. Soldier

Russian prosecutors have asked for a four year prison sentence and eight months for a U.S. soldier who has been detained in the country on suspicion of theft and threats to kill his girlfriend.

Gordon Black, who was detained in the Russian city of Vladivostok in May, pleaded not guilty this week to threatening to kill his girlfriend but admitted he was “partially” guilty of stealing from her.

“(We ask) to impose a sentence of four years and eight months, to be served in a penal colony,” the prosecutor reportedly said at the hearing.

The prosecutor has also asked for a fine of 40,000 rubles ($469), Russia’s RIA state news agency reported.

The Pentagon claimed that Black broke army rules by traveling to Russia without authorization.
