Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector have been redirected to exclusively process illegal immigrants.
The move comes as agents apprehended more than 15,000 migrants last week.
The sector’s social media accounts have been paused as the agents are being repositioned to tackle the crisis, possibly reducing the information Americans are receiving about the immigration crisis.
John R. Modlin, Chief Patrol Agent of the US Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector, shared on X, “At this time, all available personnel are needed to address the unprecedented flow. The social media team will return once the situation permits.”
Modlin added that Border Patrol will “continue to post our Week in Review statistics, demonstrating the continued efforts of our agents and staff.”
United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced in a press release, “Over the last few weeks, Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector have increased prosecution efforts by charging 133 individuals for illegal entry into the U.S. – a 240% increase from prior weeks.”
Last week, American Faith reported that over 300 pounds of fentanyl was seized in Tucson, Arizona.
In the first seven months of fiscal year 2023, CBP seized over 17,000 pounds of fentanyl, significantly surpassing the 6,600 pounds seized from October 2021 through April 2022.
