The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is reportedly investigating a human smuggling network.
One of the smugglers may be connected to the terrorist group ISIS as an independent contractor.
The smuggling network is involved in the transportation of Uzbek migrants to the United States.
Border patrol agents caught over a dozen of the Uzbek migrants, but the migrants were reportedly released by the Biden administration.
National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson told CNN that officials are working to “identify and assess” the released migrants.
“There was no indication—and remains no indication—that any of the individuals facilitated by this network have a connection to a foreign terrorist organization or are engaged in plotting a terrorist attack in the United States,” Watson added.
Reporting from Breitbart:
In June, Breitbart Texas reported that Texas Department of Public Safety troopers assigned to Operation Lone Star arrested two Uzbek migrants for criminal trespass after they illegally crossed the border from Mexico. It is not known if they are connected to this smuggling network. In May, Breitbart reported that a source with CBP revealed that five migrants found on the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database watch list were apprehended after crossing the border into Arizona.
